Over the last year we've occasionally had a bill where the majority of acts have travelled together from their home town. We've had a bunch from Sheffield, a car load from York and a posse from Manchester.
This month it's the turn of the NE of England to supply the backbone of the bill.
Our headline act is Lee Kyle, star of the 21 questions pod cast (one of our very favourites). Armed with props and a rapid gag rate, former professional wrestler Lee Kyle cuts a confident, if off-beat figure on stage. His jokes veer between the clever and the silly and deliver more than their fair share of belly laughs. Instantly likeable, Lee is quick thinking and witty with a well-written, beautifully crafted and, most importantly, hilarious set of jokes.
Travelling down with Lee are Catherine Scott and Sammy Dobson,
Sammy Tinkerbell (no, really) Dobson is a former TV and film actress turned comedian. With a happy outlook, positive attitude and cock-eye, Sammy encourages you to laugh at her life.
Catherine Scott hails from the wilds of Newcastle, she travels far and wide to tell audiences exactly what it's like to be a type 1 diabetic singleton all in a high energy package.
Rounding off the bill are Tom King and Ian Seaburn.
Tom is a Gonzo Comedy Club favourite making his 3rd appearance. A regular gong-show and comedy competition winner (he is currently through to the semi-finals of the Laughing Horse new act of the year competition) Tom takes surreal to new heights with intricate setups that lead to very funny pay-offs.
"Original thinker" Ian Seaburn is most commonly known to the Gonzo Comedy Club audience as the go-to compíƒÂ¨re when the budget won't stretch but he is actually a comedian in his own right, and tonight is the first time he's appearing at Gonzo in that capacity. Affable and articulate with sharp lines and finely crafted tales.
This month our guest compíƒÂ¨re is the one and only Edy Hurst. Edy opened our March gig and went down a storm. Now he's back to maintain law and order and guide everyone through the evening. A unique and very funny presence of the comedy scene.
